I just got a great email from a Miss Seleema Grewal, younger sister of Jas, Educate for Life trustee. Unbeknownst to me Seleena has been busy at school with her year 7 class, telling everyone about Educate for Life, having votes on different fundraising ideas and events such as a summer sports tournament, and garnering support to have Educate for Life selected as school charity for the next academic year. Brilliant stuff!
They recently had a homework to make Educate for Life posters. Here’s Seleena’s poster:[singlepic id=581 w=620 h=680 float=center]
…That’s right…’Educate for Life’ Love is in the air! On Saturday 11th February, Ash, Jas and myself attended a Valentines Dinner and Dance held at The Grange, (Beddington Park, South London) in aid of Educate for Life. The evening commenced with a short presentation from Ash, highlighting the core principles of Educate for Life and an insight into how Hunar Ghar works (with the help of Ed’s recent video clip). The response this triggered from family and friends was quite overwhelming. With just over 100 guests present, the evening was a tremendous success in ensuring that we remain financially sustainable. To date, funds raised are:
- £396 monthly donations pledged
- £3,251 one off donations
We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and have contributed to Hunar Ghar. Needless to say, we really appreciate your donations and support offered in other ways. Events such as these are a great way for us to reflect on what we have achieved and share our future visions with you. Aside from the financial aspect, what is equally as valuable is ‘word of mouth’ generated off the event. We all spoke to numerous people on the night who were buzzing with ideas on how they could help and add value to Educate for Life. Moreover, we were presented with a PR opportunity which will help to further spread the ‘Educate for Life’ word.
For those who were a bit pre-occupied getting their groove on the dance floor, and were unable to give us your standing order forms, please contact Jas (email@example.com) if you are interested in making a monthly donation. Alternatively, this can also be done via our VirginMoneyGiving page. We place great importance in keeping you updated on how your money has helped and the developments to which it has contributed to at Hunar Ghar. If for some reason we do not have your email address, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be included in our mailing list and receive our fab newsletters! Additionally, if there are any other ways you can think you can help us, please do get in touch with myself (email@example.com) or the rest of the team.
Finally, a massive thank you is due to Hina and Rajan Amin, and the rest of the team who were involved in organising this event.
Last weekend was the 2500th anniversary of the Athens marathon, and Ash with 7 friends from university and work traveled over to Greece to take part in this exciting time event and raise money for Educate for Life. They all did really well in the marathon and the fundraising – in just three weeks they raised £1966, which after GiftAid goes up to £2328.50 – a massive amount! So an equally massive thanks goes out to them and everyone who donated.
If you’d like to make a congratulatory donation you can still head over to their donation page and add to that amount. Can we make it £2500 for 2500 years?
Last week Hetty and Dermot Smith hosted an Educate for Life bring-and-buy sale which was a huge success, raising a massive £335 for us! Despite torrential rains and wind, friends and family from around the area braced the elements to pass by, drink coffee and eat Hetty’s famous chocolate brownies (the secret is in the gooeyness and glacier cherries!), buy jam, jewelry and gifts and, most importantly, learn about Hunar Ghar and what we do. This was greatly aided by some fantastic boards of photos and maps that Hetty and Dermot had made to help illustrate the ideas (see them here), and they tell me that people were most interested seeing what we do.
So many thanks to Dermot and Hetty for all their efforts, and to everyone who came along on the day, and congratulations on making is such a success.
