We can’t wait for Shwetambera Parashar to join the Educate for Life team later this month. Shwetambera will be our Fundraising and Communications Officer in India, a new role that will enable us to connect with more people and organisations to ensure the sustainability of our work as well as raising more awareness of our expertise. Shwetambera has just spent a few days in Bakhel with Iona-Jane Harris, our Fundraising and Communications Manager (both pictured above). Here Shwetambera introduces herself…
I am a development professional with more than seven years of experience in health, livelihoods and education sectors. I was born and brought up in a small town in the state of Jharkhand in Eastern India. I hold a Masters degree in Development from University of Manchester and a Bachelors degree in Fashion Technology from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore.
I have previously worked in community-based organisations like The Humsafar Trust and Maya Organic on a wide range of issues ranging from health and human rights of sexual minorities to sustainable livelihood development. I have also researched on alternative pedagogies for management education at the Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad.
I decided to work for Educate for Life because its approach to address education through holistic community development, addressing issues of livelihoods, health and maternal well-being, uniquely appeals to my vision of comprehensive rights-based holistic development.
I am extremely excited about my role as Fundraising and Communications Officer in India and I believe this role will enable me take the concept of Hunar Ghar and holistic education to a wider audience who find themselves aligned with Educate for Life’s vision of transforming the quality of rural education. I also look forward to working with an eclectic and dedicated team and understanding the dynamics of our rural education system better.
