How we teach and what we understand teaching and learning to be is an on-going process. We have no over-riding dogma about what education should be like or how learning happens and the continuous development of our philosophy and pedagogy is balanced against the practical reality of having 120 children at school each day.

That said, there are a few principles that we hold as important in learning such as keeping learning contextual, children being free to express themselves, content being relevant, and learning taking place in an active way. Some of these ideas may seem pretty elementary, but in hundreds of thousands of school, containing millions of children, they are being overlooked.

As with everything at Hunar Ghar, translating our evolving educational philosophy into practical reality has its challenges and takes time, but there has been clear and astonishing progress toward what we believe to be a better type of education for underprivileged communities, like the one we work with
