Hunar Ghar 0.1Hunar Ghar is the name of our establishment in India. Those not paying full attention would refer to it as a school, but if you look closer, as you may do by reading this document in progress, we hope you will see the subtleties that make this so much more than just a school.
A synopsis for the Rotary ClubAt one stage we tried to pitch the Rotary Club for some funding, and here is a document we gave to them. We still need to apply to them for funding, but have not got round to it yet. If you can help us do that, please
get in touch! Whablo applicationWhablo is a great idea set up by a nice chap called Matt Kemple. Essentially, if you cannot afford to donate £8 a month, or whatever the clip-board clad offenders demand, come to Whablo and donate a little to do a lot. This is our application to be a supported charity.
wood need calulationsRob and I had different ideas about the wood size, so we worked out whose would be the cheaper but there was not much in it! In the end, both our estimations of wood size we too big (ie too heavy to lift! )and we had to do some hasty reductions. It was still a nightmare to put together!
A press letter 2005From the days when the information I gave was wrong, the prose bad and manner pushy! I do not remember if this ever got sent out.
MP letterEd got a bit over excited one day, downloaded a list of all the addresses of MPs in the UK, then processed to send this letter to each of them, until he realised quite how many there were, so he just send a couple of dozen.
some more info, please...We are, on occasion, asked for some more information about the charity. Well most of what there is to know is here on this website, but we have condensed it a little in this handy download.
school costing - March 2007A very early draft figuring out how much the school would cost, done in the first few days of arriving in India to do the build. It ended up being designed differently (no bamboo, for instance), and costing more (around £ 5000).
Funding accountabilityAn account of how we used a donor s funding. When Small Voices very kindly gave us a not insignificant amount of money, they asked if we would not mind letting them know what we had done with the money a year later, so we did. The last page is particularly interesting for those that enjoy detail, as it is a complete itemisation of the school cost.
A college costing draftAce schools need ace teachers, so one day Educate for Life will run its own teacher training colleges so we can provide a great education across a broader spectrum of schools. In a moment of terrible despair out in India on mid 2007, we considered setting up a college that year. Then we realised that was a silly idea to try now. Still, here is a record of that thought.
Letter to Tony BlairA letter to the big man, asking him to have Labour support us, written when we did not really know what we were doing, just 4 months after deciding to set up Educate for Life. I winch slightly with embarrassment when reading this letter, but in the interest of honest and clarity in Educate for Life, it is on the website anyway.
Undelivered woodWhen we were building the school, we face some serious delays with getting the wood. Fortunately, a firm letter seemed to speed things up, if only for a day or two!
pledge letterTo become a registered charity we had to prove we could raise over £1000 in a year, so we bodged a few statements like this to make sure the application went through whilst we started raising money for real.
Child Protection PolicyWe owe a great respinsibility to the children of our schools, so here are our acknowledgments and commitments to ensure our kids stay safe.
