Love is in the air…

…That’s right…’Educate for Life’ Love is in the air! On Saturday 11th February, Ash, Jas and myself attended a Valentines Dinner and Dance held at The Grange, (Beddington Park, South London) in aid of Educate for Life. The evening commenced with a short presentation from Ash, highlighting the core principles of Educate for Life and an insight into how Hunar Ghar works (with the help of Ed’s recent video clip). The response this triggered from family and friends was quite overwhelming. With just over 100 guests present, the evening was a tremendous success in ensuring that we remain financially sustainable. To date, funds raised are:

  • £396 monthly donations pledged
  • £3,251 one off donations

We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and have contributed to Hunar Ghar. Needless to say, we really appreciate your donations and support offered in other ways. Events such as these are a great way for us to reflect on what we have achieved and share our future visions with you. Aside from the financial aspect, what is equally as valuable is ‘word of mouth’ generated off the event. We all spoke to numerous people on the night who were buzzing with ideas on how they could help and add value to Educate for Life. Moreover, we were presented with a PR opportunity which will help to further spread the ‘Educate for Life’ word.

For those who were a bit pre-occupied getting their groove on the dance floor, and were unable to give us your standing order forms, please contact Jas (jas@educateforlife.org.uk) if you are interested in making a monthly donation. Alternatively, this can also be done via our VirginMoneyGiving page. We place great importance in keeping you updated on how your money has helped and the developments to which it has contributed to at Hunar Ghar. If for some reason we do not have your email address, please email ed@educateforlife.org.uk to be included in our mailing list and receive our fab newsletters! Additionally, if there are any other ways you can think you can help us, please do get in touch with myself (shivani@educateforlife.org.uk)  or the rest of the team.

Finally, a massive thank you is due to Hina and Rajan Amin, and the rest of the team who were involved in organising this event.

Too hungry to go to school

Rising food prices, a lack of political will and gender discrimination are stunting the mental and physical growth of a generation of Indian children, according to a report by Save the Children.

The study A life free from hunger: Tackling child malnutrition focused on nine countries – but it’s the findings of a survey of 1,057 people in India that has hit the headlines.

More than half of Indians questioned said that rising food prices were now their most pressing concern and 17 per cent said their children skipped school to help pay for the family’s food. Read on »

New video

It’s what you’ve all been waiting for, but you just never knew it: a montage of clips from Hunar Ghar, all taken over the course of 24 hours at the end of January, set to the Rolling Stones. I could talk it up a bit, try and explain it a bit, try and justify it a bit but why bother, you might as well just watch it:
