Last month Bhawar one (children of Hunar Ghar) came to labour work & he say me I want come at Hunar Ghar & also I again I will not go any palace for labour work. I say ok next day you come with your parents.

Next day Bhawar came to alone that time Nandlal ji (teacher of Hunar Ghar) unhappy to Bhawar. He says it is one school and you go not come one month it is not good. Nandlal ji caught Bhawar hand & say you go and come with your parents. Next day Bhawar not came in Hunar Ghar. I say to Bhawar family you send your children at Hunar Ghar. Bhawar family was unhappy his family say   we shall not send Bhawar in Hunar Ghar. Then I ask to Nandlal ji what we can do for Bhawar. Nandlal ji say it was not good so I say I also want Bhawar came at Hunar Ghar.

That time I fill I am motivated to Bhawar family. Next time I will do counselling of Bhawar family.

Next day I want Bhawar house. I say to Bhawar what you want do. He says I will not come Hunar Ghar I will do labour work then says to Bhawar first you make mistake you want for labour work one month you not came Hunar Ghar. Nandlal ji fill very badly so he say to you. He not thinks badly about you. If you want do labour work it is OK. In labour work lot of people will say very badly you that time you cannot give answer. If you want always listen you can you for labour work.

Now what you want do. Bhawar says I will come Hunar Ghar. I was very happy Bhawar is coming Hunar Ghar. I make my planning of counselling it is successful. Now one month Bhawar is coming at Hunar Ghar.

It is changing of children and community.

I thought we have done very grate change in Hunar Ghar children & need more grate change of Hunar Ghar children.

Last time I was looking some construction work of aunty at Rohida. I say one children can you clean this road. It is very dirty & you make dirty. He says it is not my work. I came only for labour work. I not came for clean work. Clean works do only (Harijan) people. I will not clean this road. This child was filling very badly when I say you clean road & also shining to clean work. . Then I ask you not clean your home. He says it is work of my mother. I not do clean work at my home then I ask you read. This children say I have read class 8th.

After this I remember Hunar Ghar children when I say to all Hunar Ghar children today we will do clean of Hunar Ghar. Children will look very happy. All children will do some work of clean. Some children will clean of Hunar Ghar flower. Some children will clean window, some children will clean roof tiles & bamboo. Some time children I will do clean, we need more flowers met, and you give me. I will do. Children exited in clean work.

In India mahatma Gandhi, Lalbhahadur shastri & many people make great to his work. He never fills it is work of lower caste, lower people. Those person also born in normal family but his work make grate.

I thought it is very big change in Hunar Ghar children. Must be need for clean if your education not learns clean work & you not do work of clean then you do invitations of lot of disease? Hunar Ghar children not shy any work. Hunar Ghar children understand work is same & do clean work is very important for us. Hunar Ghar children enjoy in clean work.

Hunar Ghar education learning very good habit, good healthy. You can guess further of good habit & good heath and many good think of Hunar Ghar children.

The Economist: Primary Education in India video

The Economist.com website has a good video which tells breifly (it’s about 5 minutes long) of some of the shortcoming of the Indian primary education system. I wouldn’t say that I agree with everything they say such as centralising the private education system – that would be very annoying for us! – and standardisation, again that would be very counter productive for us, but I appreaicate the sentimentality of trying to put and end to schools that are no good and increasing the quaility of education in both the private and government sectors. The video follows:

Deepak

I just realised this morning that I haven’t put on the blog what a brilliant thing of looking after Hunar Ghar Deepak is doing. It is really hard work looking after Hunar Ghar on your own as Ash and I can both testify but Deepak is somehow managing to look after all the children, the daily running of things, the building of two new classrooms, the hiring of new staff, the accounts, the roles of all the staff as well as training the teachers, organising external teacher training and coming up with ideas for the teachers and curriculum development all on his own at the moment. That’s not to mention his constant self-refection to see what he is doing and how he is doing it and then figuring out how to do things better. It really is remarkable. We are very lucky to have Deepak as a brother, friend and committed member of Hunar Ghar. Well done, Deepak!

Curriculum development

I arrived back in the UK from Tokyo last night. Now that I’m home I can turn my attention to properly starting to develop our curriculum. We intend to write a basic Hunar Ghar curriculum over the next 9 months, ready to put it into action next August. There’s going to be a huge amount of work to do, but I think it will really help the current teachers and the training of new teachers. Hunar Ghar evolves rapidly so we’re going to have to figure out how it can remain flexible and progressive which providing a good base from which to lead projects and learning.

As much as helping teachers it will also help with how external people perceive us. The very idea that children might be able to learn in a sensible and well structured way without a curriculum dictating what to learn when is to some inconceivable; those that have a very superficial understanding of education and learning. Unfortunately many people involved in education have such an outlook so although our curriculum will be fundamentally different in the role it plays in children’s learning processes, those that view it superficially will see it superficially and so feel more comfortable with what we do. I turn that will make them more confident in Hunar Ghar (even if it is only based on appearances rather than quality), but at least that means more people might start to listen to what we are doing with the creating of a learning environment, and ultimately more children might have a more enjoyable, less repressive and damaging school life.
